Grayson: Overtaking John Neal.

4 years is the maximum stay of any manager previously employed by Bates.

As widely reported yesterday Simon Grayson has signed a new 3 year contract and put bluntly no-one can argue with that either about him or the stability of the football side of the club. One assumes the money side is now decent and that Grayson has been given some reassurances about having that period to build a promotion push without worrying a dodgy run will see him outed. All in all even an hardened cynic like me can’t knock this development.

However one minor side issue. In the 28 years since Bates arrived at Chelsea he has never had a manager for more than 4 years and that was John Neal back in the 80′s. Grayson will stretch that to 4.5 if he sees out his contract and that would be some achievement in itself given our glorified fund managers track record.
