Leeds United and Agents Fees, That Time Of Year Again

Old habits die hard at Elland Road.

The Football League have released its annual audit of the waste and expense that is paying fees to agents by clubs. You will recall that the FL went all bullish about reducing the amount as part of a process of eliminating them. Well something as gone wrong: http://www.football-league.co.uk/footballleaguenews/20100818/report-reveals-increase-in-agents-fees_2246528_2125710 and http://www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/6f/54/0,,10794~152687,00.pdf

So how did this happen…guess who was third biggest payer in League 1 only behind Norwich City and Southampton? Yes Leeds United spent £335,723 last season (or more than we think was spent on transfer fees!). As usual the club sees the need to insult us with a spin on it http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20100818/club-statement-on-agent-fees_2247585_2126148 and as usual just throw petrol on the fire.

Regardless of whether no-one else in the Leeds United family of support says it (you would have thought this kind of issue was a easy win for the likes of the Leeds United Supporters Trust wouldn’t you) I will, there is and never will be a rational for paying players agents to represent players in transactions involving the club. One day when we have transparent owners with integrity this abuse will stop but in the meantime money keeps getting thrown down the bottomless pit of greed.
